Welcome to the Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulatory Science Lab.
In recent years, the emergence of high-priced pharmaceuticals has driven up drug costs as a share of total healthcare expenditures, leading to price reductions. However, simply lowering the prices of innovative new drugs can diminish the development incentives for researchers and pharmaceutical companies. Striking a balance between preserving a sustainable health insurance system and appropriately rewarding groundbreaking innovation has thus become increasingly important. Furthermore, numerous issues, such as ensuring a stable supply of drugs, also require ongoing discussion.
At the Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulatory Science Laboratory, we employ methodologies from epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and economics alongside the natural sciences of pharmacy and medicine. By taking this interdisciplinary approach, we conduct research on evaluating pharmaceutical policies—such as drug regulations and pricing systems—as well as on various aspects of regulatory science. Through our work, we aim to contribute our findings back to society.
